If you are importing refrigerant into Australia in pre-charged equipment, you are required under Australian legislation to participate in a Product Stewardship Scheme. Refrigerant Reclaim Australia (RRA) manages this scheme to ensure refrigerants are recovered and safely destroyed at end of life.
By joining, you are playing a direct role in protecting the environment and supporting responsible refrigerant management across the industry.
How do I join RRA?

Joining is simple:
- Register online at www.refrigerantreclaim.com.au
- Choose the agreement that suits your import volume
- Make sure your business name and ABN match official records
- Once your details are verified, you will be granted access to our secure portal to complete your agreement

What type of agreements do RRA offer?
We offer three options, depending on how much refrigerant you import:
- One Time Import – for a single shipment
- Biennial Agreement (Less than 100kg per year) – for small or occasional imports
- Ongoing Agreement (More than 100kg per year) – for regular importers, with quarterly reporting
Each agreement is tailored to meet diverse business needs while maintaining a straightforward process.
Why do I need to nominate two people on the portal?

To help keep your reporting and payments on track, the portal requires two nominated people:
- A senior manager or director
- A primary contact who will handle regular reporting and invoices
If your personnel change, let us know by emailing importers@refrigerantreclaim.com.au , and we will help you update your records.

Reporting depends on your agreement type:
- One Time Import – declare your volume when you apply
- Less than 100kg – report once a year, even if you did not import during the period.
- More than 100kg – report every quarter, including nil imports if applicable
Our portal will send you reminders, but it’s also a good idea to note the dates in your calendar.

- Importing more than 100kg per year? Choose the Ongoing Agreement

- One Time Import: $220 for up to 100kg, or $2.20 per kg for higher volumes
- Less than 100kg: $220 annually
- More than 100kg: $2.20 per kg, with a $220 minimum
Fees are reviewed periodically and may be subject to change.

Late submissions or payments can incur a $100 fee for each breach.

Your agreement outlines your reporting requirements. RRA will send reminders by email, but we recommend you also pop these dates in your calendar to avoid missing deadlines.

Missing a deadline can be a breach of the agreement conditions. RRA is required to report any breaches or non-compliance to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

Yes. Each missed report or late payment can result in a $100 administration fee.
What do I need to report?
What do I need to report?
You will need to let us know:
- The type or species of refrigerant (for example, HCFC, HFO, HFC blends or PFC)
- The amount in kilograms
- Any exports made during that reporting period
How do I know what refrigerant is in the equipment?
How do I know what refrigerant is in the equipment?
Your supplier or manufacturer should be able to confirm the type and volume of refrigerant in the product.
What if I make a reporting mistake?

If you report the wrong quantity or refrigerant type, please submit a new report with the correct details to importers@refrigerantreclaim.com.au .
We will then cancel the old invoice and update your records.
Can I claim exports?
Can I claim exports?
Yes. If you export refrigerant, you can claim it in the relevant quarter. Log in to the portal and upload the claim. You will also need to email supporting documents, such as:
- Customs paperwork
- Details of refrigerant type and quantity
- Equipment information
Can I withdraw from the scheme?

You can request a withdrawal once you have finalised all outstanding reports and invoices. You must also provide proof that your import licence issued by Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), has expired or been surrendered.

Click on the “Enquiries” tab in the portal and let us know you would like to withdraw.
Attach documentation confirming your licence has expired or has been surrendered. We will take care of the rest and notify Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) on your behalf.

Yes. You can rejoin at any time by following the same registration process as before.

If your account was deactivated, contact us at importers@refrigerantreclaim.com.au
Once any outstanding fees are paid, we can help you get reactivated.

Yes. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. A 2.5 per cent surcharge applies.

Please allow 2-3 business days after your payment has been received.

If you are applying as an individual and do not have an ABN, just email us at importers@refrigerantreclaim.com.au. We will help you through the process.
Can I transfer my contribution to another business?

Contributions are not transferable. If your business details change, you will need to withdraw the original entity and reapply under the new name and ABN.
Where can I find my invoices?
Where can I find my invoices?
You can find past invoices by logging into the portal and clicking on “My Invoices”. You can view, download and pay invoices at any time.
Can I update my contact or company details?

Yes. Either email us or use the “Enquiries” tab in the portal, and we will send you a form to update your records. Each year on your anniversary, we will also send a reminder to ensure that your details are still up to date.

It is important that you keep records of your refrigerant imports and exports. From time to time, RRA may request access to these records for audit or verification purposes, and this will make the process easier for you and your team.
